The Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10 is the newest member of its digital single-lens reflex (SLR) camera line and the company’s first DSLR with Face Detection. The DMC-L10 also offers an advanced 2.5-inch Live View LCD which can rotate 270 degrees, enabling versatile shooting options and making it easy and convenient to shoot from high or low angles. Complete with a 10.1-megapixel Live MOS sensor, the DMC-L10 includes an advanced Supersonic Wave Filter system that prevents dust from collecting on the sensor and degrading photo quality.
Face Detection will focus, set autoexposure, and detect up to 15 human faces simultaneously, to capture the subjects clearly and brightly. Combining Face Detection with Panasonic’s Intelligent ISO Control settings, which measures the movement of the subject and sets the ISO level accordingly, helps deliver crisp, blur-free images.
The camera’s 2.5-inch free-angle LCD gives you even greater flexibility with a screen that rotates 180 degrees left and right and 270 degrees front and back for shots at both high and low angles. In addition, the auto-focusing area can be chosen from as many as nine points while viewing the LCD before you take the shot so you can focus on your subject with exceptional accuracy. You can also use the LCD to check how any white balance or exposure compensation adjustments affect the shot before you take it, while Film Mode lets you adjust the photo characteristics.

The K10D is equipped with the exclusive, Pentax-developed Shake Reduction (SR) system, which effectively reduces camera shake for sharp, blur-free images even under demanding shooting conditions, such as when using a telephoto lens, shooting in the dark or at night without supplementary flash illumination, or using extended exposures for sunset scenes. The SR mechanism is designed to minimize camera shake by oscillating the CCD image sensor vertically and horizontally at high speed using magnetic force, while adjusting the speed of oscillation in proportion to the amount of camera shake detected by built-in sensors. As a result, the system does not require special anti-shake lenses and can be used with more than 24 million Pentax lenses produced since 1964. (Lenses compatible with this mechanism are the Pentax K-, KA-, KAF-, and KAF2-mount lenses; screw-mount lenses [with an adapter]; and 645- are 67-system lenses [with an adapter]. Some functions may not be applicable with certain lenses.)

The E520 is a very competent DSLR with a high specification that we believe will prove to be highly competitive on price once it has been on the market a little longer and its price has dropped away from the MSRP.
